Ripper Street is a BBC crime series based in Whitechapel at the time of the Jack the Ripper murders.
It was filmed in 2012 at Clancy Barracks and around Dublin. It was designed by Mark Geraghty who won an IFTA for his efforts.
I worked on a number of the Prop Photographs with the Art Department.
Jack the Ripper case was the first time the police used photograph as evidence and it was progressing at a fast rate, new cameras and film formats. In some cases the image was recorded on a treated glass around this time.
I decided to make the photographs look like the were taken using a 5" x 4" plate camera on a tripod. The actors were to hold the pose as the exposure would be seconds long and these cameras did not have shutters. You take away a lens cover and count.
